HURRAY !!!!
We all got a notice that Alley 24 Apartments are now LEED certified!!!
This still doesn't address the issues I have laid out about them claiming it was LEED certified for the last 3 years. It still isn't on the GBCI web site database yet either. It might take a while to show up
Alley24 Apartments is owned by Vulcan and Pemco and managed by Riverstone Property Management.
UPDATE 12/11/09
Great, now our Major elect McGinn is in bed with Vulcan and he isn't even in office yet.UPDATE 12/4/09
I am getting so tired of the SouthLake Grill thinking they are a night club. It is ridiculous that we have to call every weekend and ask them to turn down the bass/music. They have speakers outside so if you are on the west side of Alley 24 expect to hear the lame music of South Lake Union Grill until 1 or 2 AM. Don't frequent this place!Aside from them no caring about the tenants the food there REALLY SUCKS! I have eaten there on the half off Sunday's like 4 times in 8 months and still feel like I am paying to much for bad food.
Like many other companies nation wide they were "Greenwashing" As stated in the Wiki it is like "Whitewashing" but companies are playing up the "Green" of what they might be selling, for example, apartments in order to get more money. You can find more here about other Vulcan Greenwashing eihter pretaining to Alley24 and or Vulcan in general.
UPDATE 11/13/09
Up until recently they stated that Alley24 was LEED Silver certified as can be seen in this screen capture
They now state on the Vulcan site "East building has achieved LEED-Silver certification". They only filed 10/2009.
11/9/2009 UPDATE: If you are here and want to help fight for our Consumer Rights, file a complaint here with the Attorney General's Office
UPDATE 10/25/09: I, and I believe others here at Alley 24 Apartments got this letter under our door. WHAT A HOOT. My understanding is that a LEASE is a binding contract, NOT promotional material.
They also published the LEED certification in their brochure. Here is a scan of the page with the LEED statement.
They also state in the lease under the "Smoking Addendum/LEED Program Policy"
"Alley 24 Apartments Apartments is certified under the LEED program and this policy is consistent under that certification. LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a nationally recognized program established by the US Green Building Council to guide the design of healthy, resource efficient environmentally responsible buildings.
You can read the whole lease page
They advertise green on their web site yet NONE of the five appliances
in the apartments are ÒEnergy StarÓ compliant. Below is a list of what makes them "Green" from Greenrenters.com
Here is is a screen shot from whatsgreen.com stating that you can get more money for rent (about 30%) from a LEED certified building.
From greenrenters.com
Quote: "We know that there are varying "shades of green" and that this building is not a super star. It does have a relatively low Green Score, coming in at a 2. Part of our mission is to move the market to higher standards and implementation of green features. We hope that people like you continue to voice your dissatisfaction with what's being offered to help us all move toward change."
I would like to mention that the leasing office staff have always be responsive as well as the maintenance crew. They are really nice and have gone out of there way on a couple of occasions. I do not believe that they are of the Vulcan lie about the LEED certification of Alley24 Apartments.
I find it pretty ironic that a we pay about 3 times what other apartments charge yet a Vulcan owned site, "Whatsgreen.Com" boasts that LEED certified buildings are up to 30% more efficient than non-LEED certified buildings. OH WAIT, Alley 24 Residential IS NOT LEED certified. That explains 30% of that over billing how about the other 150%?
